I love writing sequels; I’m writing one now. “Broken” is my follow-up novel to “Deep Water,” which should be out early next year. It’s easier to write a sequel because I’m very familiar with my core group of characters. I know them. It’s also harder to write a sequel because I have to be careful to put in sufficient back story and character development for readers that didn’t read the first book. It’s a balancing act. I don’t want to rewrite the first book; I want to get on with this one. On the other hand, I want the reader to understand the connection from the previous book, particularly certain actions and developments that would explain scenes in the current book. I’m over 21,000 words along in “Broken.” The writing is going well, but I need to be careful.
